1. What does NARAL Pro-Choice Texas do?
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas is the political arm of the pro-choice movement in Texas.  We work in the following areas: grassroots and campus organizing, lobbying and legislation, electoral work for pro-choice candidates, voter registration, leadership training, public education and community outreach.
2. How can I get involved?
By contacting us! NARAL Pro-Choice Texas is only as strong as its volunteers and activists.  Volunteer activities come in all shapes and sizes, and we are happy to work with you to find a project that's right for you, wherever you live and whatever you're comfortable doing.

To learn more about how you can help support reproductive freedom in Texas, email us, sign up to be a volunteer, and take action.

3. Is the pro-choice movement only about abortion?
No, the pro-choice movement encompasses a broad range of women's reproductive rights.

We support access to a full range of reproductive options including safe and legal abortion, adoption, contraception, comprehensive sex education, prenatal and postnatal care, and accessible, affordable reproductive healthcare for all Texas women and their families.
4. Do you support certain political parties?
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas is non-partisan political organization.

Our commitment is to support strong, pro-choice candidates regardless of political party.
5. What is Roe v. Wade?
On January 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court voted 7-2 to strike down a Texas law prohibiting abortion, citing that it violated a woman's right to privacy. This landmark decision is known as Roe v. Wade.

The Ruling Found:

  • States are forbidden to interfere with a woman's access to abortion during the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
  • States can only regulate 2nd trimester abortions to protect a woman's health.
  • States can ban 3rd trimester abortions except if a woman's life is in jeopardy.
  • A fetus is not protected as a "person" under the 14th amendment.
  • A woman's right to choose is a fundamental right and has the highest level of Constitutional protection.
6. What's the difference between NARAL Pro-Choice Texas and NARAL Pro-Choice America?
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas (NPCT) is a state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America (NPCA), which handles policy and candidates on the national level. As organizations we are separate and distinct.  Every penny that you give to NPCT stays in Texas, while contributions given to NPCA fund initiatives on a national level.  We work in coalition with NPCA and encourage you to support them as well, if you are able to.  When you give to both the state and national affiliates you double your pro-choice efforts!
7. Why is it so important to become a member of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas?
Our ability to influence government policy is largely based on the number of paid members we have, making policy makers aware of the tens of thousands of pro-choice citizens we represent throughout the state of Texas and in their district.
8. How does my donation make a difference?

Your contribution is our primary revenue source for all of our activist work, and our political work cannot be paid for with any other source of funding.
