THE OPPORTUNITY
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, a 501(c)(4) organization, and NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, serve as the preeminent reproductive rights and education focused organizations in Texas and chapter affiliates for NARAL Pro-Choice America. These organizations focus on working in tandem with one another to ensure that Texas families have the information needed and the right to make personal reproductive healthcare decisions.  This important work is done through the collaboration of local and state legislative bodies, administrative agencies, lobbyists, families, volunteers, staff, community partners, and funders.

NARAL Pro-Choice Texas and NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Foundation now have a critical opening for the position of Executive Director of both organizations.  The Executive Director, in partnership with each organization’s respective Board, will be charged with continuing the key momentum of lobbying efforts and education outreach to elected officials, educators, and families in Texas.  The Executive Director will provide highly visible and dynamic leadership to advance NARAL’s mission in a challenging legislative environment for the benefit of Texas women and families. The visionary and strategic leadership of the Executive Director is essential to advance NARAL’s mission and position in Texas, as well as to draw support from potential funding sources.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR QUALIFICATIONS
The Executive Director should possess nonprofit experience, business skills, and demonstrated dedication and support for the Agency’s mission.   Nonprofit and business experience must be in the areas of:  financial management, fund development, grant writing, business development, planning, board relations, staff/volunteer relations, and the use of social media for business communications.
 
A minimum of 3 years of nonprofit and business management experience is required.  Executive level experience leading organizations through transformational change is preferred.   A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent mix of education, training, and experience in fields related to nonprofit and leadership are required. 
 

Essential functions of the Executive Director include:

·        Agency Staff - build and strengthen staff and establish a cross-training and succession plan

·        Technology – advance the use of technology and social media to support internal/external communications, fundraising, data gathering, and reporting

·        Facilities - develop and implement an action plan to address facilities needs (rental of office and conference space)

·        Fundraising - develop and implement fundraising strategy to support critical funding needs:

o       Identify and secure new donors and relationships to support funding needs (foundations, corporations, and individuals)

o       Maintain strong relationships with past and existing funding sources through on-going stewardship activities

o       Research, write, and submit grant proposals

o       Ensure reporting requirements for funders are met on a consistent basis

·        Ambassadorship - represent the agency’s interests locally, state-wide, and nationally

o       Maintain and strengthen our relevancy in a competitive legislative and funding climate and participate in supporting events, seminars, panels, and presentations

o       Develop/maintain close working relationships with other reproductive rights organizations

·        Agency Operations - develop and advance operations to maximize the use of all available resources (human, financial, and intellectual capital) to advance the mission of our agency

o       Manage agency staff, interns, and volunteers

·        Board Relations - communicate frequently and thoroughly with the Boards regarding agency activity, financials, progress on metrics, etc.

·        Programs - Continue the development and advancement of agency programs, including Healthy Women Healthy Families

·        Financial - Manage annual budgets and day-to-day financial matters

 

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS
 

NARAL Pro-Choice Texas and NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Foundation offer a compensation plan commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. The benefits portion of the plan includes paid time off and reimbursement of health insurance costs.

Internship Positions:
Development Intern
Duties may include:
-Managing data for fundraising campaigns: data entry, track gifts, produce acknowledgements;

-Assisting with all direct mailings as needed;

-Entering and updating information in Donor Perfect Online donor database;

-Researching potential grant making organizations and assisingt in grant submission process;

-Soliciting silent auction items from local businesses for annual fundraising events;

-Attending events and manning the information table to encourage new member sign-up;

-Ensuring an accurate and current donor database via address corrections and donor preferences;

-Assisting staff with donor information for special events, program initiatives, or mailings;

-Preparing prospective donor research and profiles;

-Utilizing script and call lists to re-enroll lapsed members of the organization;

-Assisting with other fundraising programs as needed; and

-Performing other tasks as assigned.
 

Qualifications:
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas seeks energetic and enthusiastic individuals with a desire to learn more about the non-profit world, the politics of reproductive health in Texas, and the importance of working as a team. Development interns are usually outgoing individuals with a desire to jump in with both feet, tackle new challenges, and be comfortable switching gears at a moment’s notice. You will ultimately build a diverse and well-rounded resume which will serve you well as you enter into the job market.
 

Location:
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas’ only statewide office is located in Austin. However, we are interested in discussing the possibility of a long-distance internship if you live in a different part of Texas and want to work on fundraising in your region.

Public Affairs Intern

Internship Description:                                         

  • Assist with NPCT public interest and research campaigns;
  • Make contact with members of the media regarding NPCT campaigns;
  • Draft email alerts, press releases, and other promotional materials;
  • Organize NPCT supporters around legislative issues;
  • Help out with tabling at festivals and other outreach events;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
NARAL Pro-Choice Texas seeks individuals with a strong commitment to reproductive rights who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. Intern must be detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work on several tasks concurrently. Ideal candidates should possess strong communication skills, a sense of humor, and the ability to work in a team environment.
