At NPCT, I was able to manage a team of 40 volunteers and coordinate efforts to reveal the availability of emergency contraception in Houston. Now I work as a canvassing director, utilizing my past experiences at NPCT to organize a grassroots, door-to-door movement. My time at NPCT taught me that we live in a serious world with serious political challenges, but a well-organized effort with like-minded, passionate individuals can change the world one person at a time." I made phone calls to pro-choice voters to remind them to get out and vote; I collected surveys from representatives so that we could grade them on women's health issues; I attended a committee hearing in support of the Executive Director, as she presented her argument on a potential bill; I traveled to South Dakota to work on a statewide petition drive to overturn an abortion ban that had recently been passed into law; and along with the other interns, I had lunch with Sarah Weddington, the winning attorney in Roe v. Wade. My months were filled with many rewarding and memorable experiences."
