Description of Votes on Choice Bills and Amendments

1. SB 920 (Sen. Patrick): Mandatory Medical Interference: Ultrasounds:
This bill would have: required providers of abortion care to purchase sonogram machines at their expense and (in some physician’s offices) regardless of their own professional standards of care; unnecessarily required physicians to perform an ultrasound prior to abortion care (most already do); required physicians to “provide . . . and review with the woman” i.e. force women seeking abortion care (for whatever reason) to view an ultrasound image.

This bill had numerous votes in the Senate and three scored votes in the House.

  1. The 1st scored vote was taken on 5/09/2007 in a formal meeting of the House State Affairs Committee. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote on the bill.
  2. The 2nd scored vote was reconsidered on 5/11/2007 in a formal meeting of the House State Affairs Committee. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote on the bill.
  3. The 3rd scored vote was reconsidered on 5/16/2007 in a formal meeting of the House State Affairs Committee. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote on the bill.

This bill "died" awaiting consideration on the House floor on 5/22/2007.

2. SB 785 (Sen. Shapiro): Medical Records Privacy Invasion Act:
This bill would have required doctors and judges to report a myriad of personal information of women seeking abortions to the State under threat of criminal penalties.

This bill had numerous votes in the Senate and only one scored vote in the House. The only scored vote in the House was on 5/07/2007 by the House State Affairs Committee. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote against the bill.

This bill "died" awaiting consideration on the House floor on 5/22/2007.
