Description of Votes on Choice Bills and Amendments

1. SB 182 (Sen. Patrick): Mandatory Medical Interference: Ultrasounds:
This Bill would have unnecessarily required physicians to perform an ultrasound prior to abortion care (most already do); required physicians to “provide . . . and review with the woman” i.e. force women seeking abortion care (for whatever reason) to view an ultrasound image.

  • The 1st scored vote was taken on the bill in the House State Affairs Committee on 5/19/2009. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote against the bill.

2. Choose Life License Plates:
These Amendments would have modified the 'Choose Life' license plates which directed revenue to unlicensed crisis pregnancy centers that provide medically inaccurate and coercive information.

  1. The 1st scored vote on an amendment was taken on the House floor on 5/5/2009. Rep. Farrar offered an amendment to change the language on the licenses plates from "Choose Life" to "Choose Adoption". A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote against the motion to table the Amendment.
  2. A 2nd scored vote on an amendment was taken on the House floor on 5/5/2009. Rep. Pickett offered an amendment to direct the funding away from CPC's and to the Dept. of Family and Protective Services. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote against the motion to table the Amendment.
  3. A 3rd scored vote on an amendment was taken on the House floor on 5/6/2009. Rep. Burnam offered an amendment to create "Pro-Family, Pro-Choice" License Plates. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote against the motion to table the Amendment.

3. HB 3796 (Rep. Morrison): Medical Records Privacy Invasion Act:
This bill would have required doctors and judges to report a myriad of personal information of women seeking abortions to the State under threat of criminal penalties.

  • The first scored vote was taken to pass the bill out of the House State Affairs Committee on 5/6/2009. A pro-choice vote was a "nay" vote against the bill.
