Through this bill, a young woman seeking judicial bypass for parental notification of abortion would be appointed a guardian and an attorney--who may not be the same person--by the court. This would jeopardize the confidentiality, as well as the fairness and impartiality, of the proceedings. Young women would also need to prove that they were sufficiently informed, mature, and at risk for abuse (sexual, emotional, or physical) in order to receive legal bypass.
