Re: "Texas teens lead nation in birth rate – Experts questioning abstinence-only education approach," Monday news story.

It is dangerous, and an avoidance of the truth, for Cathie Adams to blame lax abortion laws in California as the reason for the huge discrepancy between the number of teen births in California and the number in Texas.

I know for a fact, after years of witnessing friends make mistakes, that abstinence-only programs alone are not effective in decreasing the teen birth rate.

Rather, our schools should be empowering us to make the most responsible decisions given the circumstances. Without reform in our sex-ed programs, the number of teen births will never decrease as much as our government leaders want them to.
