Travis Co. renews contracts with 2 Austin abortion providers
Associated Press Houston Chronicle December 11, 2009 AUSTIN — Travis County contracts will be renewed with two women's health centers in Austin that perform abortions. About 200 people were on hand today night as the board of Central Health approved agreements with the centers to continue providing abortions for low-income women. Board member Clarke Heidrick, who is an attorney, says in his view and in most instances, “abortion is wrong.” But Heidrick says abortions are legal and that continuing the contracts will support the district's mission of providing health services to those who can't afford to pay for care. The board voted to continue contracts with Austin Women's Health Center and Whole Woman's Health of Austin, plus added Planned Parenthood as a third option.
