Statement from NARAL Pro-Choice Texas on NARAL Pro-Choice America’s endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President

Yesterday, NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President.

This decision was made internally by NARAL Pro-Choice America, based in Washington D.C., and without the consultation of the NARAL state affiliates across the country, including NARAL Pro-Choice Texas.

Because the work of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas is to advance access to healthcare, including reproductive rights, for Texas women and their families, we will not be issuing an endorsement of a Presidential candidate.   We are fortunate to have two pro-choice candidates for President in Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Barack Obama. When a pro-choice nominee for President is named, NARAL Pro-Choice Texas will stand proudly with that pro-choice candidate, as well as several candidates for Texas offices, in order to defeat anti-choice candidates in November.

NARAL Pro-Choice Texas will be making public our endorsements of pro-choice candidates for Texas offices soon.
